What is an IP address and how can it help secure my Newsweaver data?
On the internet, IP addresses are
used to identify and locate computers.
When you enter a website address such as
www.newsweaver.com into a web browser, it converts this to the IP address of the Newsweaver web
server. The IP address of the Newsweaver web server is 91.103.4.50 and
essentially you can think of this number as the phone number of the web server.
When you connect to the Newsweaver system we also receive your IP address,
otherwise we could not send web pages back to you. As you normally contact us
from your place of work the IP address is normally (but not always) the same
for each user of the system within your company.
As an additional security
measure you can request us to stop all access to your account unless it comes from
your company's IP addresses or 'IP range'. If you need to access the Newsweaver system from
home this option does mean you would need to connect to your company's VPN first. As a matter of best practice, it is never a good
idea to access any private or sensitive information from an internet café or
other public web access point.
If you would like to limit access to your Newsweaver account within your company's IP Range, please email support@newsweaver.com.
